2025-2026 School Year in Togo: New Momentum for Education
After a two-month vacation, school resumes in Togo this Monday, September 15. More than three million students, from primary to secondary schools, are returning to class across the country, marking the start of the 2025-2026 academic year.
This new school year promises to be dynamic, with more than 40 weeks of educational activities planned, interspersed with periods of relaxation and holidays, in accordance with the official calendar. After a 2024-2025 school year marked by generally satisfactory results, the Togolese authorities are strengthening their commitment to the education sector.
To best prepare for this new school year, several significant measures have been put in place:
- Recruitment of Educational Staff: 5,000 new teachers will be recruited, accompanied by a thousand volunteers.
- School Infrastructure: The construction and rehabilitation of 7,000 classrooms is planned across the country.
- Preschool Education: 15 new public kindergartens will be established to increase access to preschool education.
- Educational Reform: A reform of the supervision of middle school classes (CM1 and CM2) will be introduced.
These initiatives are accompanied by increased monitoring of the availability of school supplies and price stability, as well as an operation to secure the start of the school year.
On the health front, the 'School AMU' health insurance program is being accelerated to ensure coverage for as many students as possible. In addition, a recently launched national malaria vaccination campaign aims to protect young learners against this disease.
As every year, solidarity initiatives were implemented. On September 9, a national campaign to distribute school kits was launched, targeting more than 100,000 young girls, with the aim of supporting their access to education.
For the Togolese authorities, the ambition remains clear: to thoroughly modernize the national education system in order to meet the expectations of the population and the demands of development. This new school year thus represents a crucial step in improving education in Togo.
