Strengthening the poultry sector in Togo

The Togolese poultry industry gained new momentum with the awarding of certificates to two hundred professionals trained at the Regional Centre of Excellence for Avian Sciences (CERSA) at the University of Lomé. The ceremony was attended by Minister of State Yark Damehame and Minister of Higher Education Kanka-Malik Natchaba.

During this two-week training, participants acquired skills in good breeding practices, production management, biosecurity, animal feed and health standards.

Yark Damehame highlighted the strategic importance of the poultry sector for food self-sufficiency, citing a measure reserving 10% of poultry imports for local production, or around 2.1 million chickens.

CERSA, supported by the World Bank, plays a key role in training and applied research, thus contributing to the development of poultry farming in Togo.
