Food Security in Togo: Partnership between the University of Lomé and LaNSA
In Togo, efforts to strengthen food security continue with the signing of a strategic partnership between the University of Lomé and the National Laboratory for Food Safety and Phytosanitary (LaNSA). This collaboration, formalized on Monday, June 2, aims to combine academic expertise and cutting-edge technical infrastructure to address challenges related to the quality and traceability of agricultural products.
To ensure the smooth running of this initiative, a joint steering committee will be formed. This framework will bring together representatives from both institutions and will be tasked with defining a roadmap. Its objectives include identifying priority research areas, initiating joint projects, and facilitating the hosting of students from the University of Lomé at LaNSA for practical internships. The stated ambition is to professionalize training while contributing to improving health standards in the agri-food sector.
This collaborative dynamic began a few days earlier, during a technical visit by University of Lomé lecturers and researchers to the LaNSA premises. Adama Kpodar, President of the University of Lomé, underscored the importance of this partnership, stating: "With LaNSA, we are moving from theory to economic and social impact. This is the mission of a committed university."
The collaboration between the two institutions is not limited to the establishment of the steering committee. It also includes the regular organization of scientific workshops, the design of applied research projects, and the joint search for funding. The themes envisaged are varied and include:
- Soil quality
- The recovery of agricultural waste
- Traceability of food chains
