A regional center of excellence dedicated to sustainable cities under construction at the University of Lomé
The Regional Center of Excellence for Sustainable Cities in Africa (CERViDA-DOUNEDON) will have its own facilities on the Lomé University campus by December. Construction work was officially launched on Tuesday, February 7, with a foundation stone laying ceremony.
Specifically, a two-story building with a total area of 3,300 m2 and a built-up area of 778 m2 will be erected, and will include three areas: public, educational, and administrative. The goal is to make this institution, which welcomes at least 15 nationalities from the continent, more autonomous.
“ Having premises is a real advantage for the center, especially since the training provided is geared towards all countries in the sub-region ,” recalled Professor and Director of the center, Coffi Aholou.
For the Minister of Higher Education and Research, Wateba Ihou, the establishment of this headquarters in Lomé, “ contributes to the implementation of the government roadmap, particularly on issues of the environment and sustainable development ”.
As a reminder, CERVIDA is a regional higher education project, supported by the World Bank and the French Development Agency (AFD), in which 11 sub-Saharan African countries participate. The objective is to strengthen human resource capacity on the issue of sustainable development in sub-Saharan Africa.
