Togo strengthens its local consumption strategy

Togo is continuing its efforts to promote local consumption. Efforts to this end were launched on Wednesday, July 10, in Lomé to validate a national strategy.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Commerce with the support of the World Bank Group, aims to " significantly increase the consumption of local goods and services, in order to stimulate strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth ."

Concretely, the project is structured around three axes: strengthening the competitiveness of local goods and services, improving the visibility and accessibility of local products to stimulate local consumption, as well as strengthening the governance of local consumption.

" Local consumption is one of the essential levers for meeting the challenges we face, particularly that of supporting and boosting the national economy, by promoting and enhancing the know-how of our artisans, managers of very small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as other promoters of local goods and services ," explained Koffi Vinyo Mensah, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Commerce.

At these meetings, which end this Thursday, July 11, recommendations will be made for the implementation of the national local consumption strategy.

As a reminder, since 2020, a “buy local” month has been held every year in October, with the aim of promoting local products.
