Togo sends its condolences to Senegal following the tragedy in Tivaouane

In Senegal, eleven newborns died Thursday in a fire in the neonatal unit of Tivaouane Hospital. In a message to his counterpart Macky Sall this Friday, President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé expressed the compassion of the Togolese people.

I learned with dismay of the death of eleven newborns in Senegal in the fire that occurred in the neonatal unit of the hospital where they were being held. Joining in the grief of the Senegalese people, I extend my condolences, and those of the Togolese government and people, to my brother President Macky Sall and to the bereaved families ,” the Head of State said.

The fire was caused by a short circuit, according to initial official reports. A three-day national mourning period has been declared in the country.
