Togo/ March 8: AMD, JEAD and IFD popularize the code of persons and the family

A consortium of three Togolese women's organizations, namely IFD JEAD and AMD, met on March 8, 2023 in Togo. These entities met with the women's group called "La Main de la Femme" in the canton called Amouzougankopé located in the commune of Lacs 2. The activity was placed under the theme "Popularization of the Family Code and the people of Togolese law".

After an initial exchange of words between the participants to understand the level of knowledge of this celebration dedicated to them, the issue of popularizing women's rights in rural areas was addressed. Thus, how to disseminate information on women's rights in these rural areas and explain their merits was also on the agenda. This was added by the director of the NGO IFD: " the observation is that women members of groups in rural areas lack knowledge of the Togolese family code ," Ms. Totine KOLANI.

The main objective of this initiative is to explain to this target audience the main points of the family code and more specifically marriage. For her part, using the local language, the head of the JEAD presented this code as well as its important points, especially those concerning marriage. This gave rise to fruitful discussions with the participants. Through questions addressed to the women, the AMD coordinator led the assembly to reflect, exchange ideas and take stock of what has been done and what remains to be done on the issue of women's place in society.

This meeting ended with recommendations made by the women of the group to the Ministry of Social Action, the Promotion of Women and Literacy as well as women's CSOs.
