Togo is represented at the 2022 Venice Art Biennale in Italy
Togolese visual artist and videographer Abdoul-Ganiou DERMANI is participating in the group exhibition “MEADOWS Mask Art Venice 2022”, which is part of PERSONAL STRUCTURES 2022 under the theme “Reflections”. A prestigious exhibition organized by the European Cultural Center, from April 23 to November 27, 2022 at Palazzo Mora in Venice, Italy, as part of the 59th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art, considered a major artistic event in the world.
MEADOWS Mask Art Venice 2022 is a reflection of a traumatic period the world has experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. This project was initiated in 2020 by the president of the NGO MEADOWS, Ms. Lena Kelekian, in collaboration with UNESCO on the occasion of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. It represented a collective effort against the COVID-19 pandemic, helping to foster a sense of global social responsibility.
The 2022 installation, created through an audiovisual presentation of protective masks transformed into art canvases, features the works of 100 artists from 65 countries and reflects fears, worries, and despair, as well as aspirations and hopes. Looking forward to a time when everyone will physically and psychologically take off their masks.
These colorful works of art pave the way to a world of solidarity and faith in humanity. Moreover, they are a worthy tribute to the long tradition of prestigious carnival masks that have given Venice one of its charms and identity over the years, where artistic creativity has manifested itself in its most refined forms. Once worn to conceal identities, masks become statements reflecting the identity of the artists and the countries they represent.
The darkest moments in history are catalysts for artistic movements, sparking the brightest creations in the hearts and minds of artists, acting like litmus papers, detecting change before anyone else.
The exhibition is on display at Palazzo Mora (Strada Nova, Cannaregio 3659, Venice, Italy) until November 27, 2022. Visit these links to learn more: https://personalstructures.com/
