Togo/ Discovery of dead fish in Todman: government alert
A large quantity of dead fish was discovered in the Todman stormwater retention basin, the government announced on Monday. In response to this alarming situation, the relevant services, including those of the Ministry of Health, mobilized to remove and incinerate the fish.
A security cordon has been installed to prevent any attempt to recover these fish. Meanwhile, toxicological and chemical analyses are underway as part of an ongoing investigation to determine the origin of this worrying phenomenon.
The government is calling on the public to exercise extreme vigilance by refraining from consuming any fish whose origin is not clearly established. "Riskful consumption of these fish could lead to toxic infections, including vomiting, poisoning, colic, and diarrhea," the government warned.
As a reminder, regular control and surveillance measures are put in place in Togo to guarantee the quality of fishery products and protect public health.
