Suspension of shea exports to promote local processing
Exports of shea nuts and almonds have been suspended as a precautionary measure in Togo since March 10. The decision, taken jointly by the Ministers of Economy, Trade, and Agriculture, aims to alleviate supply difficulties experienced by local processing units.
With an average production of 40,000 tons per year, Togo ranks seventh in the world and exports nearly 25,000 tons of shea butter each year. The suspension of exports should allow local industries, such as Nioto and Label d'Or, to secure their supplies and optimize their processing capacities.
This measure is part of the government's industrialization strategy, which encourages the local processing of raw materials to stimulate job creation and reduce dependence on external markets.
