Strengthening the operational capacities of Gnassingbé Eyadema International Airport

Lomé's Gnassingbé Eyadema International Airport (AIGE) continues its development with the inauguration of two new aircraft parking areas on Wednesday, July 17. This initiative, carried out by the airport authorities, marks the completion of the apron extension work launched a few months ago.

With the addition of this new infrastructure, Lomé Airport is now able to accommodate two additional large aircraft, bringing its total parking capacity to 17 aircraft. This work was carried out with the support of China and is part of the government's ambition to consolidate Lomé's strategic position as a regional aviation hub.

Colonel Idrissou Abdou Ahabou, Director General of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), highlighted several direct benefits resulting from this expansion. These include:

  • Increase in aircraft capacity
  • Increase in revenue generated by aircraft parking fees , thus contributing to the country's economic development
  • Improving the level of security and safety on the platform
  • Increased efficiency of operating operations

In 2024, Gnassingbé Eyadema International Airport recorded more than 1.5 million passengers, demonstrating a positive momentum regained after the difficult period linked to the Covid-19 pandemic. This growth in passenger figures reinforces the strategic importance of the airport in the region.
