Official launch of GOFT to strengthen the fight against GBV
On the sidelines of the third edition of the Gender Café, which took place on December 27, 2023, a landmark event in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, a major initiative was announced. Created in Lomé on November 30, 2023, the Cluster of Feminist Organizations of Togo (GOFT) was officially launched, marking a significant step in the mobilization of Togolese feminist organizations.
Established to promote gender equity and equality while combating gender-based violence, this alliance represents a crucial platform for organizations working for the rights of women, girls, and children in Togo.
The platform aims to strengthen collaboration between these entities, joining forces to actively promote initiatives for gender equality. As a framework for exchange, this alliance will foster dialogue with the Togolese government, seeking to contribute constructively to decision-making processes that affect the lives of women and girls in the country.
The official launch of GOFT was announced at the 2023 Gender Café, highlighting the collective commitment to the cause. Alliance members actively participated in the workshop, sharing their diverse experiences and highlighting the concrete actions taken by their respective organizations to promote gender equality and combat gender-based violence.
This new alliance between Togolese feminist organizations brings a strategic dimension to the fight for the rights of women, girls, and children. By launching the GOFT, the participants of the 2023 Gender Café clearly affirmed their intention to work together to achieve common goals and create a significant impact on the ground.
The initiative is part of global efforts to establish zero tolerance for gender-based violence in Togo. By joining forces and working together, member organizations aim to positively influence policies, programs, and attitudes toward a more equitable and inclusive society for all.
The launch of this alliance marks a new and promising chapter in the Togolese feminist movement, with encouraging prospects for the advancement of gender equality and the protection of fundamental rights within society.
