Good Deed Day: JVOSEC-AFRIQUE raises awareness of the health risks linked to environmental degradation

Good Deed Day is about doing good around you. It aims to encourage people to do good deeds. Indeed, volunteering and good everyday gestures are the very essence of our society and ensure its cohesion. They improve the lives of each of us a little bit. It is in this spirit that this April 19, 2023, in Tsévié, the JVOSEC-AFRIQUE association initiated a day of sanitation and awareness raising on environmental protection. From this activity was born the official declaration, the content of which is as follows:

Reading of the statement

''We, volunteers of the JVOSEC-AFRIQUE association, are appalled by the quantity of plastic bags littering the streets of Tsévié. During our Eco-jogging activity as part of the Day of Good Action, we collected more than 15,000 bags in just 3 hours. This sad observation prompts us to raise the alarm with the relevant authorities.

We are aware of the dangers these bags pose to the community, whether it be environmental pollution, deterioration of air quality, soil contamination, degradation of public health or road safety.

We call on the authorities to take appropriate measures to combat this scourge, such as banning the production, sale and use of non-biodegradable plastic bags in our cities; implementing awareness campaigns to encourage citizens to adopt sustainable alternatives, and setting up effective collection and recycling systems for plastic bags already in circulation.

We are ready to work closely with authorities and other local organizations to find effective and sustainable solutions to combat the scourge of plastic bags in our cities.

We hope that this joint statement will be taken into account by the authorities and that concrete measures will be taken quickly to protect the environment and public health in our cities."
