Improvement of planned agricultural development zones in Togo

In a significant effort to strengthen agriculture in Togo, 60 power tillers and their accessories were recently made available to agricultural cooperatives operating in the Savanes, Kara, and Central regions. This initiative is part of the West Africa Food System Resilience Program (FSRP) and aims to improve the productivity, efficiency, and sustainability of agricultural activities in the Planned Agricultural Development Zones (ZAAP).

This action supports the implementation of the Emergency Program for Strengthening Community Resilience and Security (PURS). At the same time, Agricultural Business Management Technical Advisors (CTGEA) in the affected areas were trained in the use and management of this new equipment. The objective is clear: to ensure more optimal operation of the ZAAPs by strengthening the capacity of cooperatives to manage their agricultural activities in an autonomous and organized manner.

The Planned Agricultural Development Zones (ZAAPs) were launched to provide farmers with a cooperative framework, thereby promoting improved productivity and boosting yields. This national agricultural modernization program has already shown encouraging results. By the end of 2023, Togo had 222 ZAAPs, covering a total area of 32,230 hectares.
