Doufelgou: celebration of the 36th edition of the traditional festival “Sintu Janjaagu”
The people of Doufelgou Prefecture celebrated the 36th edition of their traditional festival, "Sintu Janjaagu," this Saturday. The festivities, which took place in Niamtougou, were attended by a government delegation, political and administrative authorities, as well as guests of honor from the Akposso and Akébou communities.
Under the theme "Let us unite for the consolidation of peace, security and living together in the prefecture of Doufelgou" , this edition was an opportunity to promote the values of unity, dialogue and social cohesion. It also highlighted the cultural riches of the Lamba and Nawda .
Kossivi Hounakey, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Trade, Crafts and Local Consumption, representing the Head of State, highlighted the importance of this event. He said: "This joint celebration is more than a symbol: it illustrates our ability to live together in peace and harmony. It reflects the deep attachment of populations to their roots and traditions. Through this celebration, you demonstrate that culture can be a powerful lever for social cohesion and territorial development."
Celebrated every first Saturday of April, Sintu Janjaagu represents a moment of communion between the Lamba and Nawda communities. This event marks the end of the harvest, pays homage to the ancestors and invokes their blessing for a new prosperous agricultural season. Fonio , the region's traditional cereal, occupies a special place, both in the rituals and in the shared dishes, symbolizing solidarity between members of the community.
