Creation of a fund dedicated to research and innovation in Togo

Since Monday, May 6, the Togolese capital, Lomé, has been hosting a major international meeting dedicated to the creation of a fund for research and innovation. The meeting, which brings together experts and academics from 20 member countries of the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS), aims to strengthen funding mechanisms in these crucial areas.

The conference, which will conclude this Wednesday, May 8, will focus on developing strategies to establish national funds specifically dedicated to research and innovation. To this end, a reference manual will be developed at the end of the meeting to guide future efforts in this area.

One of the key aspects of this meeting is the establishment of a transnational network bringing together stakeholders involved in research and innovation. This network aims to foster regional and subregional collaboration in order to effectively and efficiently address complex national and cross-border challenges in research and innovation funding. According to Dzifa Gameti, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Higher Education, this initiative will lay the foundations for enhanced cooperation in these vital sectors.

At the national level, Togo is making sustained efforts to mobilize resources for research and innovation. To this end, a committee of experts has been established to study the feasibility of creating this fund. This approach demonstrates the country's commitment to promoting scientific and technological development, which is essential to meeting contemporary challenges.

The Lomé meeting thus constitutes a significant step in the promotion of research and innovation in Africa and the Caribbean, paving the way for increased cooperation and major advances in these strategic areas.
