Biometric census: launch in the Gulf prefecture
Following the success of the biometric census campaign in the Savanes region, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic and Demographic Studies (INSEED) announced the official start of mass registrations in the Gulf prefecture starting Monday, May 12. This initiative aims to strengthen the national identification register in Togo.
In a press release published on Thursday, May 8, INSEED stated that this operation is being carried out in collaboration with the National Identification Agency (ANID). It is part of the e-ID Togo project, supported by the World Bank through the WURI program. The main objective is to create a reliable and secure national registry based on biometric and demographic data.
The biometric census is considered one of the Togolese government's flagship projects. The goal is to provide every resident of the country with a unique identification number, thereby facilitating access to all essential services. This project represents a significant step forward in modernizing administrative infrastructure and securing citizens' personal data.
Authorities encourage the population to actively participate in this census, emphasizing the importance of accurate identification for the country's economic and social development. Citizens are encouraged to visit designated registration centers to ensure their information is correctly recorded.
