Agriculture: Finally! Glyphosate is banned in Togo!

Its importation, marketing, and use in Togo's fields are not over. Glyphosate, since it must be named, is no longer an accepted product in Togo. Around the world, glyphosate is causing great concern about its dangers to human health and the environment.

It is by decree No. 183/19 MAPAH/Cab/SG/DPV that, on December 16, 2019, His Excellency Mr. Noel BATAKA, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Production and Fisheries, puts an end to the exposure of Togolese producers to horrible risks.

"Glyphosate is an organophosphate herbicide that is both total – all plants are more or less sensitive to it to varying degrees – and systemic – the product migrates into the tissues. Weedkillers often contain a derivative of glyphosate, the isopropylamine salt, which is more soluble in water," (Futura-sciences).

This non-selective herbicide absorbed by the leaves and with generalized action should no longer be shipped to Togo after December 30, 2019; however, a 12-month moratorium is granted for any product containing it introduced into Togo before this date.
