Togo strengthens its commitment to the sustainable development of the coffee sector in Africa

Togo reaffirms its commitment to the sustainable development of the coffee industry in Africa. Earlier this month, the country officially submitted its instrument of acceptance of the 2020 agreement to the Inter-African Coffee Organization (IACO), thus marking its full adherence to the provisions of this new agreement.

This agreement aims to:

  • Promoting the sustainability of the coffee industry
  • Strengthening the capacities of African producers
  • Encourage investment in infrastructure and processing of coffee products

Togo is the first country to have joined this agreement since May 11, 2023. According to Enselme Gouthon, Secretary General of the Coordination Committee for the Coffee and Cocoa Sectors (CCFCC) , "this approach is in line with its historic commitment to the coffee sector."

As a reminder, Togo has also taken over the presidency of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) since October 2023. This leadership underlines the country's growing role in promoting the interests of coffee producers and in implementing strategies to improve the sustainability of this essential sector.
