Togo prepares for COP30 in Brazil
Togo is preparing to participate in the 30th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP30), which will take place from November 10 to 21 in Brazil. As part of this effort, Environment Minister Foli-Bazi Katari began a series of meetings last week aimed at mobilizing technical and financial partners around this global event.
During these discussions, the Minister met with representatives of institutions such as the FAO, IOM, UNICEF, WHO, the German Embassy, and the WFP. The discussions focused primarily on the contributions expected from each institution to support Togo in its participation in COP30.
Foli-Bazi Katari stressed the importance of clearly defining national priorities so that the Togolese delegation could effectively defend the country's interests at the conference. "We must not go to the COP, let alone return, empty-handed," he insisted.
The partners present welcomed this proactive approach and pledged to support Togo in its efforts. The proposals gathered during these meetings will be examined by an interministerial committee, which will be responsible for developing a framework document setting out the priority issues to be addressed at COP30.
As a reminder, Togo had already participated last year in the work of COP29 which was held in Azerbaijan.
