Togo declares April 29, 2024, a public holiday

The Minister of Civil Service, Labor, and Social Dialogue, Gilbert Bawara, announced this Sunday that Monday, April 29, 2024, will be declared a paid public holiday throughout Togo. This decision, taken in accordance with the provisions of the electoral code, aims to allow all citizens of voting age to fulfill their civic duty in the context of the combined legislative and regional elections.

More than 4.2 million voters are expected to cast their ballots in this crucial election for the country's political future. The declaration of April 29 as a public holiday demonstrates the importance the Togolese government places on the democratic participation of its citizens and the preservation of the integrity of the electoral process.

This measure also aims to ensure that all Togolese workers have the opportunity to go to the polling stations and exercise their right to vote in peace. By declaring this day a paid holiday, the government aims to encourage massive and responsible participation in these elections, thereby strengthening the foundations of democracy in Togo.

Togolese authorities call for a peaceful and orderly voting day and urge all eligible citizens to exercise their right to vote to help shape the country's political and social future.
