Togo: Agrivoltaic project with four countries

Togo, in collaboration with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, and Guinea, is preparing to launch a joint agrivoltaic project. Feasibility studies began on July 8 in Lomé and will continue for two days.

Supported by the European Union (EU), this project aims to promote sustainable agriculture while facilitating access to solar energy in rural areas. It involves integrating solar panels into farms, thus enabling dual use of land for agricultural production and energy generation.

"This project offers a double benefit for farmers: preserving land use while accessing a sustainable energy source," said Yaou Méry, Director of Environment.

Eventually, a mapping exercise will be carried out for each country to identify the affected land and the beneficiary farmers. Particular attention will be paid to gender inclusion, with the active participation of women and priority given to smallholder farmers to enable them to increase their incomes.
