The establishment of the 9th Pan-African Congress is underway

In Togo, preparations are now underway for the 9th Pan-African Congress, scheduled for 2024 in Lomé. The event, officially launched on Monday, May 22, in Lomé by the Prime Minister during a ceremony attended by numerous officials and foreign delegations, focuses on the theme "Renewal of Pan-Africanism and Africa's Role in the Reform of Multilateral Institutions: Mobilizing Resources and Reinventing Ourselves to Act."

This marks the beginning of a series of activities, including the installation of members of the International Committee of the Congress, a tour of the renewal of Pan-Africanism in several countries of the continent and in the diasporas, an international mobilization and communication campaign, as well as the installation of subcommittees responsible for thematic work.

For Togo, this congress represents an opportunity to "perpetuate the Pan-African movement on a historical level, but also to reaffirm its essential importance in the collective efforts of the peoples of Africa and the African diasporas, with a view to obtaining a more equitable representation of the continent in multilateral institutions of international cooperation and to participate equitably in global governance," according to the words of the head of government, Victoire Dogbé.

Several countries and institutions, such as South Africa, Congo and the African Union Commission, have already expressed their support for Togo in organizing this summit.

It is worth recalling that the Lomé Congress will be the fourth on the continent, following those in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Kampala (Uganda) and Johannesburg (South Africa). The first five Pan-African Congresses were held outside Africa, mainly in Europe, with the exception of the fourth in New York.
