Reforestation: traditional chiefdoms called upon to contribute
In Togo, as the national reforestation campaign for 2023 is being prepared, the Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources continues its mobilization on the ground. The minister in charge of the sector, Foli-Bazi Katari, began a series of exchange meetings with traditional chiefs and their general secretaries on Tuesday, April 11, in Kpalimé.
The objective is to strengthen the involvement and capacities of the latter in mobilizing populations and especially land to achieve government ambitions . While weather conditions are expected to be particularly favorable this year, with abundant rains forecast across the country, the official invited the crowned heads to become more involved.
“ We want to ask the population not to always wait until June 1st to start reforestation. But to keep in mind that June 1st remains a symbolic date for the launch of reforestation operations by the authorities. The proof is that the Head of State already put one in Blitta, two weeks ago ,” reminded Foli-Bazi Katari, in front of the 150 officials present.
As a reminder, by 2023, the government plans to plant 14 million trees , almost triple the number of seedlings planted last year.
