National Guide for Regional Development in Togo
The establishment of a national guide for the design of regional development plans (RDPs) was finalized during a meeting held on October 15 and 16 in Kpalimé. This tool, developed with the support of UNDP and FAO, will serve as a reference for the new Regional Councils in their planning process.
The guide incorporates crucial dimensions such as:
- Climate change
- Gender equality
- Social cohesion
These elements aim to ensure balanced and inclusive development throughout Togo. Emmanuel Amouzouvi, the consultant responsible for developing the document, emphasized its importance: "This document is an essential instrument that will allow regions to plan their priorities in a structured manner that is consistent with national guidelines."
This initiative is part of the decentralization and local development agenda in Togo. Its goal is to provide each region with a harmonized planning framework, essential for promoting sustainable economic and social development.
Since last year, Togo has established regional councilors, marking a significant step forward in the decentralization process. These councilors are now responsible for developing and implementing development policies at the territorial level, in alignment with national guidelines.
