Lomé kicks off a new era of climate finance for African countries
A pan-African forum on mobilizing and structuring climate finance has been taking place since May 23 in the capital of Togo. For three days, representatives of Designated National Authorities (DNAs) from 23 countries participating in the Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI) are meeting to facilitate access to climate finance for African countries.
The forum aims to establish a framework for exchanges between the focal points of the Green Climate Fund's NDAs and to better understand their role in facilitating access to financing in their respective countries, as well as investment opportunities. The Minister of Environment and Forest Resources, Foli-Bazi Katari, emphasized the importance of promoting sectoral policies and governance mechanisms that promote the attraction of national and international capital.
At the end of the meeting, which is part of the "Supporting African Leadership in Climate Change Adaptation" project, participants will take stock of the mobilization of capital for climate finance, the obstacles to accessing funds and the solutions envisaged to overcome them.
According to Sandra Freitas, Director of Sustainable Solution for Africa (SSA), the ultimate goal of this initiative is to seriously consider mobilizing the capital needed to invest in the fight against climate change before the climate crisis intensifies.
