ANC launches campaign in Hanukkah

After a first week of sabbatical to pay tribute to the martyrs of the violent repression of the demonstrations of June 26, 27, and 28, the National Alliance for Change (ANC) officially launched its electoral campaign. The first meeting was held this Friday, July 11, in Hanoukopé, in the commune of Golfe 4, under the leadership of the national president and outgoing mayor, Jean-Pierre Fabre.

In front of enthusiastic activists from the Nyekonakpoè, Kodjoviakopé, and other federations, Jean-Pierre Fabre set the tone for the campaign. This meeting allowed ANC leaders to address several current sociopolitical issues, including the repression of recent protests, the country's poor governance, and to criticize the current regime as well as former comrades who have joined the opposition.

Two major themes dominated the presentations: the consequences of a possible boycott of the municipal elections and Jean-Pierre Fabre's record as head of the Golfe 4 commune. The speakers, including Apollinaire Attiley, Vice-President of the ANC Youth, and Isabelle Ameganvi, Vice-President, highlighted the dangers of a boycott. They warned that not voting would give the current regime a free pass, allowing UNIR and its allies to proclaim themselves victorious. The messages were clear: voting is an act of resistance and support for the victims of repression.

Another highlight of the meeting was the report on Jean-Pierre Fabre, presented by Ms. Isabelle Ameganvi. She highlighted the significant achievements of the municipality during his term, particularly in the areas of sanitation, health, education, and infrastructure.

Among the achievements mentioned, we note:

  • Renovation and equipment of thirteen (13) primary schools.
  • Renovation of five (05) Medical Health Centers (CMS).
  • Acquisition of thirty-three (33) motor pumps to manage flooding.
  • Lighting of one hundred and fifty (150) streets.
  • Renovation of five (05) markets.
  • Construction of sixteen (16) public latrines.

These results were presented as superior to those achieved during the thirty years of special delegations under the current government, arousing the admiration of ANC municipal councilors, Francis Pedro Amuzun and Sévérin Drah.

ANC officials called on the people of Gulf 4 to renew their confidence in Jean-Pierre Fabre during the July 17 elections. "For the continuation of our achievements and the harmonious development of our community, let us all vote ANC," declared one speaker, supported by a banner displayed on the site.

Beyond the commune of Golfe 4, the ANC is urging voters to support its lists in all communes to ensure municipal control. Jean-Pierre Fabre called on all democratic forces to vote en masse for the opposition parties, emphasizing the importance of this strategy for the future of the Togolese people.
