France: Police kill young Togolese man married to French woman following family dispute

This morning, we learned of the tragic death of a young Togolese man married to a French woman, both living in France. The sad event occurred on the night of August 9, 2021, in La Talaudière. According to the French public prosecutor, a single gunshot killed our compatriot.

It all began with a call to the police on the evening of Monday, August 9. This phone call came from his wife, requesting emergency assistance.

According to our information, an argument broke out between the two partners. The woman then called her son from a previous relationship to come and help her. Together, they managed to lock the Togolese man in the apartment while waiting for the police to arrive.

Things apparently escalated. As a last resort, a police officer fired his weapon. The husband, a Togolese national, collapsed, fatally wounded. His death was confirmed by the firefighters who responded to the scene.

The partner and her son were questioned overnight. As a reminder, the couple married just three years ago. The two partners met in Lomé before moving to France.
