Environment Fortnight 2024: Togo commits to a sustainable future

The Minister of the Environment, Katari Foli-Bazi, announced last Tuesday the holding of the 3rd edition of the Fortnight of Environment and Sustainable Development (QEDD), scheduled for June 8 to 24, 2024. The announcement, made during a meeting with the press in Lomé, highlights the growing importance given to environmental issues in Togo.

Organized by the French National Agency for Environmental Management (ANGE), the QEDD is a key platform for discussing approaches to solving environmental problems. This edition, themed "Clean Water, Clean Air, Preserved Soil and Forests: Our Collective Responsibility," promises a series of varied and enriching activities.

The program for this fortnight includes several activities planned to raise awareness and mobilize the Togolese population. These include panel discussions that will allow experts and the general public to discuss current environmental issues. Competitions will be organized to encourage innovative initiatives in sustainable development, and training will be offered to strengthen the capacities of local stakeholders.

Additionally, neighborhood cleanup operations will be conducted, directly engaging citizens in protecting their environment. These actions aim to promote a civic environmental culture and raise public awareness of the importance of preserving natural resources.

The official launch of the QEDD 2024 will take place at the 2 Février Hotel in Lomé, marking the beginning of two weeks of intense activities and mobilization. This launch event will bring together various environmental stakeholders, local authorities, non-governmental organizations, and engaged citizens.

Launched in 2016, the Environment and Sustainable Development Fortnight is part of an effort to promote a sustainable environmental culture in Togo. Following the 2016 and 2017 editions, this third edition aims to build on the achievements made and continue efforts to ensure sustainable management of the country's natural resources.

In short, QEDD 2024 represents a unique opportunity for Togo to consolidate its commitments to sustainable development. By highlighting the innovative successes and strategies of various stakeholders, this fortnight contributes to building a more environmentally friendly and inclusive future for future generations.
