Celebration of the traditional festival “Ayiza” in Zio

Last weekend, Zio Prefecture vibrated to the rhythm of the 53rd edition of its traditional festival, “Ayiza,” also known as the Bean Festival. Under the inspiring theme “All together for a more united, resilient, and prosperous Zio,” the festivities attracted many participants, including the President of the National Assembly, son of Zio, as well as several members of the government.

The Ayiza festival is much more than just a festive event; it represents a moment of conviviality and appreciation of the land. It also symbolizes the people's gratitude for the abundant harvests and blessings received throughout the year. This event is organized to commemorate the exodus of the Ewe people and to highlight the crucial importance of bean cultivation in the Zio region.

At the celebration, Lidi Bessi-Kama, Minister of Sports and Leisure, spoke on behalf of the government. She emphasized the importance of traditions and culture as levers of development for communities. "We must do everything possible to safeguard and protect these values, which contribute to our collective identity. Promoting them contributes not only to the country's economic growth, but also to the influence of its cultural diversity," she said, highlighting the essential role these elements play in building a united and prosperous society.
