Announcement of biological rest for fishing in Togo

The Ministry of Fisheries Resources announced that the biological recovery period will begin on July 1, according to a press release published on June 23. This measure concerns marine and lagoon fishing and aims to allow the regeneration of fishery resources.

The suspension of artisanal fishing will be in effect until July 31, 2025 , while industrial fishing will be prohibited until August 31, 2025. During this period, all fishing or transshipment activity will be prohibited.

The ministry clarified that "any offender is liable to the sanctions provided for by the regulations in force" and encouraged professional organizations to ensure that this decision is respected by those involved in the sector.

As a reminder, in 2024 , 23,776 tonnes of fish were caught, highlighting the issues related to the sustainable management of fisheries resources in Togo.
