AMU: extension to self-employed workers
The National Social Security Fund (CNSS) has announced the extension of Universal Health Insurance (AMU) to self-employed workers. This initiative was presented on Tuesday, October 7, in Lomé, during a meeting informing traders, artisans, farmers, livestock breeders, and individual entrepreneurs about membership procedures, contribution levels, and covered medical benefits.
Contributions are designed to be forward-looking and flexible, with several options:
Monthly: 10,000 FCFA
Quarterly: 28,500 FCFA
Half-yearly: 54,000 FCFA
Annually: 102,000 FCFA
Each member can cover up to six beneficiaries. Benefits include preventive, curative, and hospital care, as well as partial coverage of tests and essential medications.
Ingrid Awadé, Director General of the CNSS, stated:
« Our ambition is to guarantee access to healthcare for all, without distinction, and to strengthen social protection for workers in the informal economy. Above all, this is a matter of social justice and a lever for sustainable economic development.«
To simplify the registration of self-employed workers, a digital platform has been set up, accessible via the CNSS website and on mobile download platforms. It is important to note that a 90-day waiting period is required before accessing benefits.
