A national committee will now lead activities for forest restoration

In Togo, efforts continue to restore forests and forest landscapes. A meeting was held on Wednesday, February 8, in Lomé to operationalize the National Committee for Sustainable Development (CNDD).

The initiative, which is part of the African Forest and Forest Landscape Restoration (AFR100) initiative, provided an opportunity to gather information on the activities to be carried out by the various parties during this year. Discussions also focused on the priorities of the African AFR100 initiative, launched in 2015 during COP21, strengthening intersectoral collaboration, achievements, and challenges to be addressed. The national platforms of this initiative bring together direct and indirect stakeholders, with the mission of overcoming the challenges related to natural resource management on the continent.

As a reminder, Togo has committed to restoring more than one million hectares of degraded landscapes by 2030. The country also plans to have 30% forest cover by 2050.
