Togo: A committed celebration of International Women's Day at Avénou College

International Women's Day was celebrated with enthusiasm this year (March 8) at Avénou College in Lomé, where the Association Mains du Développement (AMD) and the Association Jeunes Engagés et Actifs pour le Développement (JEAD) jointly orchestrated a landmark event under the inspiring theme: " Investing in the future of young girls to accelerate positive transformations in our societies."

AMD coordinator Ms. NABROULABA Tem opened the day by warmly welcoming the young students, immediately initiating a series of questions and answers to assess their level of knowledge on the history of International Women's Day. Through this interaction, she shared the importance of this day, emphasizing the need for continued involvement of each generation to achieve equality in everyday life.

The second point of the event was marked by the impassioned intervention of the president of the JEAD association, SOMABE Adjovi Justine. She led an exercise aimed at allowing young students to better understand themselves and measure their level of commitment to the development of their community. Highlighting the acquisition of rights through the commitment of some, she illustrated her point by evoking the fundamental right to education for all young girls.

The highlight of the day was the planning of future activities, presented by Ms. VESSOUH Ayaovi Patricia, AMD facilitator. She guided the students through the need for concrete actions, offering examples tailored to the various international days concerning the girl child. This phase of the event created a space conducive to reflection and creativity, sparking lively discussions around future initiatives.

The meeting concluded in an atmosphere of inspiration and commitment, leaving behind motivated young students ready to actively engage in promoting equality and women's rights. The Mains du Développement Association and the Jeunes Engagés et Actifs pour le Développement Association successfully sowed the seeds of change, encouraging young people to become agents of positive transformation within their communities.
