Togo: Flood alert in the Savanes region

A worrying rise in water levels in the Sansargou River basin has prompted the Ministry of Security to alert residents of the municipalities of Kpendjal-Ouest 1, Kpendjal-Ouest 2, and Kpendjal 2 in the Savanes region. Hydrological stations have recorded an exceedance of the alert threshold, with overflows already affecting some riverside homes. Forecasts indicate a continued rise in water levels in the coming days, increasing the risk of flooding for more localities.

Civil Protection calls on the populations concerned to be extremely vigilant and to strictly respect the safety instructions:

  • Stay informed through official channels (radios, security services, social networks).
  • Carefully monitor the rising water level using the limnometric beacons and scales.
  • Report any worrying rise to local authorities or to the freephone numbers (170, 118, 1014).

Regional and local disaster risk reduction platforms are urged to strengthen monitoring of warning tools and prepare for any urgent response.
