Improving complaints processing in the agricultural sector in Togo
On September 10, Togo took a significant step forward in addressing grievances in the agricultural sector by adopting a new consensus-based mechanism for complaints management. This initiative is an integral part of the Project to Support the Incentive Mechanism for Agricultural Financing Based on Risk Sharing (ProMIFA) and the Regional Program for the Integration of Agricultural Markets (PRIMA).
The aim of this new mechanism is to establish a framework for constructive dialogue between the various stakeholders, thereby strengthening transparency and trust in the implementation of agricultural projects. By fostering an environment conducive to the development of smallholder farmers, it also aims to improve the living conditions of rural communities.
The next step is to create and train grievance management committees, which will be composed of local stakeholders. These committees will play a key role in grievance management, ensuring a quick and effective response to farmers' concerns.
As a reminder, ProMIFA was launched by the government with the aim of providing organized and efficient agricultural value chain actors with sustainable access to markets and services, whether financial or not. As for PRIMA, it was initiated by the Togolese and Beninese governments, with the support of IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development), in order to stimulate agricultural production by increasing trade between the two countries.
This progress demonstrates Togo's commitment to improving the living conditions of farmers and strengthening the sustainability of the agricultural sector.
